The passenger tank locomotive designated as series 77 by the Austrian Federal Railways was procured from 1913 (SB/kkStB Rh 629) in several series until 1927. The Pacific Class 2'C1' h2t steam locomotive was approved for a maximum speed of 85 km/h. Practically every train haulage system in Austria was equipped with class 77 locomotives at some point. The western and southern railway lines and their branch lines were just as much a part of the operational area of the 77 as the Inn Valley line or the Lindau–Bregenz–St. Margarethen. The last locomotives were only taken out of service in 1975 when steam traction ended in Austria.
