The class 86 was a standard tank locomotive that was built in large numbers by numerous German locomotive factories for the Deutsche Reichsbahn. Some of these steam locomotives found their way to Austria after the end of the war and were used for passenger and freight transport. One of the most spectacular jobs was the pre-tensioning work for heavy ore trains in front of the 52 series. The machines were at home at the Hieflau, Selzthal, Linz, Bischofhofen and St. Veit/Glan boiler houses, among others. The last locomotives were parked in 1972.
