In January 2017, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) signed a framework agreement with Siemens for a total of 200 new locomotives The delivery of Vectron multi-system locomotives has been completed. These locomotives are intended for use in more than ten countries in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, as well as in Germany and Italy.

Several delivery series have already been delivered to the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) under the series designation 1293. The locomotives of the first and second delivery series are equipped with the country-specific markings for Austria, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Croatia, and Slovenia.
