Role model:
Indusi means the inductive train control of the three-frequency resonance type used since 1934 in the German railway network. It is a punctiform train control. Originally it was called Inductive Command. It is also used in this form in Austria, Romania, Israel and the successor states of Yugoslavia.
The modern microprocessor-controlled variant of this train control is called point-shaped train control or PZB.The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) used Indusi for the first time in 1963 on the German-regulated route Salzburg-Freilassing. From 1965, the Westbahn was equipped and today Indusi is installed practically nationwide. The abandonment of an own train control system proved to be advantageous, as locomotives from Germany can also operate in Austria and vice versa.
Due to the cramped space of many Austrian stations, the Indusi slipstreams penetrated into the points area, which caused additional driveway exclusions and impaired the operational flow. In order to improve the efficiency of the route network, since the 1970s, the slip-roads have been abandoned and replaced by so-called protection routes, which are usually only 50 meters long. Thus, an essential element of the Indusi security philosophy was sacrificed.
500 Hz magnets are usually missing in Austria. Instead, signal tracers are retrofitted with 1000 Hz magnets from the train rising far distant exit signals, which also help prevent approaching stop indicating exit signals.
With the aim of increasing safety, the ÖBB undertook experiments with a train control derived from SELCAB. However, in view of the development of the single European train safety ETCS, the project was discontinued. The line tension control LZB is used in Austria only at speeds over 160km / h.
